Brave Souls

While on an assignment for Vanity Fair, Norman Jean Roy met Somaly Mam, a former sex slave from Cambodia. Mam had a mission to rescue other victims of sex-trade and sex-slavery, reintegrate them back into society & teach them trades they could use. Most of the girls were traded or sold by their own families & usually at and extremely young age.

The foundation that Mam co-founded is called AFESIP Cambodia. They hope to make more people aware of this issue that happens more often than people would like to think about. Looking at these photos are definitely inspiring and eye opening. Inspiring because these young girls are young, strong, brave & able to overcome the horrible circumstances that they were subject to.

These photos of the survivors are from Roy's photobook, Traffik.
